Manjaree (Bathers Beach) became the beating heart of SANCTUARY 25.
Stretching from shoreline to port, the salt-stained precinct was transformed into a vibrant cultural and community space. Across three weeks, it brought together major artworks, installations and performances alongside live music, workshops, a sea-side Sound Sauna and an ocean-facing Community Kitchen — a temporary sanctuary to meet, make, move and reflect. No two days were the same.
At its centre, the Community Kitchen — designed by Officer Woods — anchored the site through food and exchange, hosting takeovers, talks and shared meals. Nearby, the Sound Sauna invited audiences into a ritual of steam, sea and listening, with audio works commissioned from local artists unfolding alongside heat, breath and an expansive ocean outlook.
As the sun set, local and national music acts soundtracked the precinct, drawing people together at the edge of the water.
Standing within it all, House for All — the 2025 Architectural Pavilion by Officer Woods — brought together structure and use, housing the Community Kitchen and Public Programs while offering a place to gather.
Across talks, tours and sunrise swims, Manjaree became a site of ongoing encounter — where art, food, sound and people came together in a shared, temporary sanctuary.
