Signals from Another Star
Fremantle Biennale artists Shupiwe Chongwe and Tom Mùller will participate in the 2026 sā Ladakh Biennale, unfolding from 1–10 August across Ladakh’s lived landscapes.

The 2026 edition, themed Signals from Another Star, brings together site-specific works imagined as “signals” — calls, beacons and transmissions emerging from communities, culture and ecology across Ladakh’s vast landscape.
This continues an exchange between the two Biennales. In 2025, Ladakhi artists Stanzin Tsepel and Arunima Dazess presented work as part of Sanctuary 25. In 2026, Shupiwe Chongwe continues the dialogue in Ladakh, engaging with traditional pottery practices and bringing knowledge systems into conversation through making. Tom Mùller will also present a new site-responsive work at Basgo Gompa — an atmospheric, durational sculpture shaped by place, time and environment.
Together, these projects reflect a shared commitment to exchange— artists moving between places, carrying and recontextualising ideas.
